Abstract: | The aim of this trial was to evaluate the possibility of feeding fattening rabbits with a feed composed of 40%, locally available, brewer's grain and without soybean meal. At weaning (35 days), 68 rabbits were divided into two identical groups (mean live weight: 833 ± 128 g) and housed individually until slaughter age (77 days). Each of the two groups (D0 and D40) received ad libitum either the commercial pelleted feed (D0) or the experimental pelleted feed (D40) containing 40% brewer's grain, barley, dehydrated alfalfa and wheat bran. The health status of the rabbits did not differ between the two groups. The feed conversion was within the standards and similar in the two groups (3.59 on average). Growth performance and feed intake of D40 group were similar to control (35.5 and 130 g / day), just as cold yield and carcass weight (P> 0.05). The rabbits of both groups had a good fattening state of the carcass (perirenal fat: 25g). The economic efficiency was 44% better for the D40 feed, with a benefit of 36 DA per kg of meat produced. So the incorporation of 40% of brewer's grain in a fattening diet, and without soybean meal, resulted in same performances than the control feed. |
